First Look: Brooklyn Ballet & Friends
The Schermerhorn Performance Space

Brooklyn Ballet hosts an evening of ballet and street dancing with special guest companies presenting a variety of new choreography, works-in-progress and movement experiments

Brooklyn Ballet Company will perform Close to You a new work choreographed by Lynn. She invites you to take a sneak peek. Stop by Brooklyn Ballet’s studio for Open Rehearsals on April 26, 28 and 30 from 1-3pm.

Also slated to perform is Ballets With a Twist, a downtown Manhattan-based company founded by choreographer, Marilyn Klaus. The company presents her new work-in-progress, White Russian, her latest in a series of cocktail-themed dances, to music by Stephen Gaboury. The New York Times says: “Eye-catching imagery abounded in Ballets with a Twist...witty and fantastic.”

Other guests include journalist Stephanie Woodard and trombonist Peter Zummo presenting new text, movement, and music pieces, and Brooklyn Ballet faculty Megan Brunke adds a Latin flair to the evening with a salsa duet. Additional guest performers in various disciplines – baroque, jazz, hip hop, etc. – to be announced.

And be sure to stick around after the show! Audience members are encouraged to mingle with performers and choreographers – provide feedback, ask questions and participate in an open discussion of dance.

First Look performances are Saturdays, May 8, 15 and 22 at 8pm. Tickets are $15 at the door and $10 online. They can be reserved by calling 718.246.0146, by visiting Brooklyn Ballet at 160 Schermerhorn St. or by clicking the link below.
