Brooklyn Ballet announces its 2011/12 season and celebrates 10 years!
Brooklyn Ballet, in association with the Kumble Theater, Brooklyn, presents new works which explore major influences on ballet and music during the Gilded Age, the late 19th Century period which was the birth of modern America.
Dances include “Forest Fairies and Peasant Revolt,” a new creation by Artistic Director Lynn Parkerson which reveals Isadora Duncan’s profound impact on classical ballet. The piece brings together variations from Michel Fokine’s Les Sylphides and Duncan’s Chopin Dances. Ms. Parkerson will perform Isadora Duncan’s extraordinary and heroic "Revolutionary Etude".
Other works include “Dolls, Dolls, Dolls,” divertissements from Brooklyn Ballet’s pop-up, hip-hop Nutcracker to the Tchaikovsky score and the world premiere of a mixed movement piece to Stravinsky.
Morgenstern will perform transcriptions of music by Chopin and Tchaikovsky as well as Stravinsky's famed Suite Italienne from his ballet score Pulcinella. Joining Mr. Morgenstern will be pianist Julius Abrahams, who will also perform Scriabin'sRevolutionary Etude. New transcriptions and interpretations will be performed live by Julius Abrahams and Mr. Morgenstern.
Dancers include Richard Glover, Nikki Hefko, Courtney Horton, Miku Kawamura, Kerry Shea, Irakli Shengalia, Natalia Wodnicka among others.
Other collaborators include 2011 Bessie Award-nominated costume designer Patricia Forelle (nominated for La Folia, choreography by Lynn Parkerson), Michael Mike "Supreme” Fields and Crew and fashion designers ymx by yellowman.
Advisors to the project include Jennifer Homans, author of NY Times bestseller “Apollo’s Angels,” and Catherine Gallant, director of Dances by Isadora.
