Sheila Gonzalez-Ramos
Pre-Ballet I & Pre-Ballet II
Sheila Gonzalez-Ramos began her training at the National Ballet School of Havana, where she completed the full 9-year course in the Cuban ballet method.
She joined the school faculty upon graduation, teaching classical and character dance from elementary through pre-professional levels and working alongside Cuban dance masters including Fernando Alonso. She went on to teach and perform with Centro Pro-Danza in Havana and later with Pam Danza Teatro in Guayaquil, Ecuador, where she choreographed original works and coached students to awards at the World Ballet Competition, Danzamerica, and UDA. In California, she performed with Pasadena Dance Theater before beginning nearly a decade of teaching that centered on the earliest stages of classical training. On faculty at the Colburn School from 2018 to 2024, she taught pre-ballet through Ballet I and designed the school’s year-long curricula for pre-ballet and ballet prep while also substituting across every level through the Dance Academy. She taught concurrently at Ballet Studio from 2015 to 2024, working with students ages five through eighteen and preparing competitors for YAGP and the World Ballet Competition. Her original choreography includes Thumbelina, a thirty-minute work created for annual performance.Sheila holds a B.S. in Physiological Science from UCLA and is pursuing a PhD at Columbia University, where her study of human physiology informs an anatomically grounded, injury-conscious approach to training young dancers. She brings a warm and joyful presence in the studio, passing on her love of movement while holding the discipline that classical training requires.
